DESCRIPTION:The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health\, public safety\, and national security threat. DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health\, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting. \nDEA is committed to making our communities safer and healthier\, and we can do this by reducing overdoses and overdose deaths. While the community does its part to turn in unneeded medications and remove them from potential harm\, we are doing our part to further reduce drug-related violence. \nOn this webpage are resources to help you dispose of unneeded medications in your home\, seek treatment for a substance use disorder and learn more about the drug overdose epidemic in the United States. \nHelp prevent drug misuse before it starts by dropping off unused medications at DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Last fall\, we were able to collect and dispose of close to 600\,00 pounds (300 tons) of unneeded medications nation wide. We invite you to help us exceed our previous results. \nStart your spring cleaning off right. SUMMARY:2023 Stop Overdose Summit
DESCRIPTION:Eric Shoffner (Sector Leader for Healthcare Professionals) encouraged everyone who can do so to register and attend the 2023 Stop Overdose Summit.  He and his wife\, Katrina\, have attended most (if not all) of the years the event has been offered by the Arkansas Attorney General. \n\nEric stated that this is one conference where everyone is working collaboratively to address and combat the overdose crisis in our state.  See the description of the five available session tracks below.  This is a one-day conference (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)  Carpooling could be arranged\, and we could hang together for meals and breaks. What a great experience we will have getting better acquainted and working together for positive change in our community.  An alarming statistic is that in 2022\, Ashley County was reported to have 30 overdose deaths per capita (that is\, compared to 100\,000 people).  In 2020\, we were actually the #1 county for opioid overdose deaths at 15 per 100\,000.  Two years later\, we have moved to the #5 position of the 75 counties for all overdose deaths.  But moving from 15 per capita to 30 per capita doesn’t sound like improvement.  It is just more tragic.\n\n\nPreviously called the Prescription Drug Summit\, the event is now entitled the Stop Overdose Summit and will be held on Wednesday\, November 8th at the Little Rock Statehouse Convention Center for the 12th annual summit. This event is FREE and open to the public. \nThe Summit features five breakout tracks: \n• Family track – For any family and friends impacted by opioid abuse\n• Education/Prevention track – Educators\, Community coalitions and anyone involved or interested in the education and prevention of opioid abuse\n• Criminal Justice track – Law Enforcement community\n• Counseling/Recovery track – Anyone who is involved in the counseling and recovery field\n• Clinical track – Pharmacists\, Nurses\, Doctors and others in medical field \nRegister today for the event:  https://arkansasag.eventsmart.com/events/2023-stop-overdose-summit/ \nThank you\, Eric\, for sharing this opportunity for training with our Coalition!
