Drug Free Communities

Drug-Free Ashley County (D-FAC) Coalition received the Drug-Free Communities Grant provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in August 2022. This 10-year grant will be used by the members of D_FAC to help reduce youth and adult substance use by addressing the factors in the communities of Ashley County Arkansas that increase the risk of substance use and promote the factors that minimize the risk of substance use.

The members of D-FAC come from many different areas or sectors of the community (see figure above). Representatives from all of these sectors work together toward one goal.

Reducing substances abuse county wide can be achieved by coming together as a community to strengthen the efforts of combined resources. If you wish to participate of volunteer in creating a safe and healthier community, please contact us on the contact page of this website (Contact Us).

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Grants

This website has a wealth of information about the grant we have received from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  I encourage all members and individuals interested in understanding the intent of the grant and our goals to read and re-read the information.  There are great examples of successful coalitions nationwide and the activities they engage in to further the prevention of substance use/abuse in their communities.

As of October 2024, there are more than 750 grantees nationwide.  We have thirteen (13) DFC grantees in Arkansas whereas last year we had only seven (7).  We owe thanks to our Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership (ARORP) for helping the new Arkansas grantees receive awards.  However, only three (3) grants are active in south Arkansas, and only two (Ashley County and Lake Village/Chicot County) in SE Arkansas.”
